Croydon, UK, 29 September 2011 – Software from GGP Systems is supporting what is thought to be one of the first shared services applications for the management of essential address data. A partnership between two Surrey based local authorities is already delivering savings in software and hardware costs, reducing staff overheads and improving data access and security. Shared services in the public sector are being hailed by many as a way for organisations to meet cost cutting targets without reducing services.

Using gazetteer management software developed by GGP Systems, Tandridge District Council is hosting Runnymede Borough Council’s Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) providing secure access to the data via a common network shared by all eleven councils within Surrey. Tandridge has also used its award winning expertise and experience to integrate the gazetteer within Runnymede’s Geographical Information System (GIS), joining up a range of back office systems and frontline service delivery.

“With the current pressure on budgets across local government it has become necessary to find ways of sharing resources wherever possible,” commented Matthew Mitchell, IT Manager at Tandridge District Council. “By hosting Runnymede’s gazetteer management application we have realised significant savings in costs and staff time and been able to share our experiences and expertise with the data, software and its wider integration with other council systems and services.”

“It is hoped that this model can be used to offer additional authorities the same hosting service,” continued Mitchell, “effectively offering Tandridge as a centre of excellence for the GGP software suite in particular and gazetteer management in general.”

Tandridge Council has been using GGP Systems’ gazetteer management software since 2007 and was the first local authority using NGz software to successfully migrate to the all important National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) BS7666 standard. The hard work and expertise of Tandridge Council in the management and implementation of address data has been acknowledged with a number of awards including the 2010 Exemplar Performance Award ‘Best in South East’ for the NLPG, as well as the 2009 Exemplar ‘Ministry of Justice Award for the Best Implementation of the Electoral Registration Data Standard’.

GGP NGz software has been specifically developed to ensure a consistent, up to date and accurate base for all property based information within an organisation. GGP NGz also manages the import and export of data between the local authority databases and the NLPG, the national hub. The complete product suite was one of the first two software solutions to receive accreditation for address data transfer (DTF 7.3), is fully compliant with BS7666 and users of GGP software scooped five out of 6 awards at the 2010 NLPG Exemplar Awards.
