GGP transforms East Lindsey’s council service

Croydon, UK, November 2007 - GGP Systems is helping Lincolnshire’s East Lindsey District Council transform its services with the latest information systems.  Using GGP NGz, an advanced gazetteer management solution, East Lindsey has adopted the new National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG): 2006 BS7666 standard in advance of the mandatory deadline, saving the Council money and improving the quality and accuracy of this essential Council resource.

The NLPG is a definitive national address database that provides a unique fingerprint for every property in England and Wales.  It is revolutionising local government by allowing quick, easy access to public information, facilitating the transformation of Council services and enabling truly joined up government.

“The new standard, implemented and supported by GGP’s NGz, will enable us to build on our existing address management success,” said Darren Pearson Custodian of East Lindsey District Council’s Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG). He continued “The new format includes additional details to enrich the data and with the help support and dedication already demonstrated by GGP we can use the NLPG to continue to improve service efficiencies, reduce duplication of both data and effort and improve inter departmental communication and team working.” Using GGP NGz, East Lindsey originally created their gazetteer by combining address details from a number of sources; including the Council’s own planning records and property details from the Land Registry and Valuation Office. The data was merged and then extensively cleaned, using NGz, to remove duplicate addresses and data inaccuracies. Once this mammoth operation had been completed the address data was matched back to the Council’s planning system and will be used to provide daily updates to the Council’s planning department, Customer Relationship System (CRM) and the national NLPG hub.

GGP NGz is specifically designed to manage a Council’s Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG); ensuring a consistent, up to date and accurate base for all property based information within an organisation. GGP NGz also manages the import and export of data between the local authority database and the NLPG, the national hub. The complete GGP NGz product suite was only the second software solution to receive accreditation to the new national address standard BS7666.  East Lindsey District Council is geographically one of the largest shire districts in the country, covering some 700 square miles. Located in the east of the county East Lindsey is home to virtually Lincolnshire’s entire coastline, including Skegness, Sutton on Sea and Mablethorpe, plus the Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). With a population of an estimated 138,500 the local economy includes high levels of tourism and agriculture supported by successful manufacturing and service industries.
