GGP geographic information system aids Hemel Hempstead regeneration

Hemel_Hempstead_regeneration Dacorum Borough Council is implementing a corporate Geographic Information System (GIS) from GGP Systems. The system is expected to be a key tool in the regeneration of Hemel Hempstead, including the area devastated by the Buncefield oil depot explosion and fire.  GGP GIS and eGGP, the mapping to web solution will distribute the power of the GIS throughout the organisation via the Council's intranet and also to members of the local community via the Council's website.

GGP Systems was awarded the contract to supply the GIS following an extensive research, consultation and tendering process. "We were looking for a system that could meet the needs of users throughout the organisation; our internal customers, and enable us to improve our public facing service delivery to local residents, businesses and partner organisations." Said John Worts, Corporate Information Manager, he continued "GGP met these diverse requirements and still provided value for money."

GGP provide a range of information management systems specifically designed for local authorities that help councils meet key E-Government directives.  The easy to use solutions enable the creation and management of corporate property databases, adding a spatial element to all location based information.  At Dacorum, GGP GIS is being rolled out to a number of departments with eGGP enabling more users to access the system via the Council's corporate intranet.

"GGP is already producing a return on our investment. By allowing users to access centralised information we are reducing effort and therefore improving our efficiency. Users are encouraged to share information, both internally and with external customers and partners, and this has led to an integrated approach to service delivery and we are able to produce accurate and up to date reports to support decision making." Said Worts. "It is planned that GGP will be an integral tool for the recently announced Hemel 2020 project, which aims to regenerate the town of Hemel Hempstead, and also in the aftermath of Buncefield supporting the ongoing provision of support, the investigation into the incident and redevelopment of the area."
