eGGP releases power of GIS in South Holland

South Holland Web GISSouth Holland District Council has launched an online mapping service using eGGP, the mapping to web solution from GGP Systems.  The system releases the power of the council's Geographical Information System (GIS) throughout the organisation and to citizens via the Council's website.  eGGP displays information about Council services to improve customer service and meet e-Government targets.

Visitors to the Council's website can search for information, assisted by an address look-up facility that pinpoints the location of any property.  Searches provide locations and information on Council services such as recycling, planning applications and development restrictions, as well as local facilities.  Linked to the council's central property databases, searches can be undertaken using either a full or partial address or via the interactive map window.

A ‘My Home' section provides details of a range of services including refuse and recycling collection dates, the vicinity of additional recycling facilities and the location of schools and post offices. The online planning service details all applications since 1997 and links directly to the Councils planning system to provide detailed information for specific properties and applications. Additional map layers include mapping from the Ordnance Survey and Council Administrative data including ward boundaries and parliamentary constituencies.

"In order to improve the service we provide to both our internal and external customers it is essential that we are open and easy to access. eGGP enables us to share information between departments and improve the service we provide to our external customers." Said David Jackson, Business Systems Support Analyst, he continued, "We are constantly improving the online experience and welcome the feedback we receive."

South Holland has been a user of GGP's GIS since 1993 and today the system is used in both the Environment and Planning Departments.  The system is used to record and manage planning applications and building control applications and links directly to Council's planning software and also to the Council's National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) and the Ordnance Survey ADDRESS-POINT® data. GGP GIS is also used to record and manage the threat to the area from flooding as the Council is situated on reclaimed land within the Lincolnshire Fens.

eGGP enables non GIS users to access information that would previously been unavailable or difficult to access. This has specifically benefited the Council's Customer Service Teams who have instant access to a wide range of information enabling them to provide a more efficient and effective service at the first point of contact.
