GGP puts environmental health information in context

GGP_puts_environmental_health_information_context GGP's Geographical Information System is enabling Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to place management information held with the authority's FLARE System in its geographical context. This dynamic link between the two software systems enables managers in Environmental Health, Planning and Development Services to identify potential links between premises and incidents, it also enables relationships between events and their surroundings to be analysed.

Nuneaton and Bedworth is a long term user of FLARE as it provides the council with an integrated premises record system. FLARE is used by the Unit to manage address information from the Authority's Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG), which was initially created and managed using GGP NGZ, the gazetteer management solution specifically designed for local authorities. Addresses are imported from the LLPG into FLARE and then used to create unique site references to which all additional information is associated. FLARE enables records of inspections, complaints and request for services covering a wide range of issues; food hygiene, street naming and tree preservation orders, to be held, accessed and analysed.

The Active-X link between GGP GIS and the Council's FLARE System provides a dynamic interchange between the vast array of textual information held by FLARE and the Council's mapping information held within the corporate resource of GGP GIS.  "By putting information held within our FLARE System into its true geographic position within GGP GIS we are able to improve our working practices." Said Megan Beach, Support Services Manager for the Environmental Health, Planning and Development Service Unit. "Information is more readily understandable as it is displayed in its geographical context complete with background mapping. Our Officers are therefore able to quickly identify relationships between properties and events, which give us additional management intelligence. We are hoping to build on this success and have ambitious plans for the future which include the creation of a complete land parcel record system and further online resources for our residents " She continued.

The Active-X link, GGP GIS and GGP NGZ are a part of a range of information management systems specifically designed for local authorities. They provide Councils with easy to use solutions for the creation and management of corporate property databases, the ability to add and use a spatial element to all location based information and a range of solutions to meet E-Government directives.
