GGP at the Heart of e-Government Success

Hertsmere_Borough_Council

Hertsmere Borough Council has implemented a range of solutions from GGP Systems to provide local residents and businesses with a wealth of information via the Councils website. Using eGGP, the mapping to web solution, visitors to http://www.hertsmere.gov.uk/ can search and query the Councils archive of planning applications, view planning restrictions for a specific property or area and find local services and administrative details.

Visitors to the site can search the Councils archives by entering an address, postcode or via the interactive map window. Having located a property or area the visitor can view administrative information such as the ward or borough, environmental features such as green belt or conservation areas and even details of planning applications relating to a specific property.

The Council also uses GGP GIS, the geographical information system specifically designed to meet the needs of UK Local Authorities. GGP GIS enables information held within the Councils planning system to be accessed within a geospatial environment proving additional intelligence for planning officers. The integration of GGP GIS and Plantech has enabled the Council to publish over 12,000 planning records via its public access website. The documents, which relate to applications filed since 1997, provide a valuable resource for both local residents and businesses.

"Prior to the start of this project we carefully considered the needs of the local community and the Councils own e-Government Strategy. The chosen solution had to be easy to use for visitors to the site and also compatible with existing Councils systems." Said Penny Mwangi, E-Government GIS/LLPG Custodian. "GGP delivered both! We are now moving on with our plans and hope to publish a number of other map layers in the near future including parking information, council provided community services and a ‘where's my nearest?' search tool." Charlie Smart, Business Analyst added "In order to comply with current legislation and to meet the growing requirement for easy access to council information from the local community the ongoing development of the Councils website is vital. GGP facilitates this development making it easier for us to achieve our ambitious targets."

GGP GIS and eGGP are a part of a range of information management systems specifically designed for local authorities. They provide Councils with easy to use solutions for the creation and management of corporate property databases, the ability to add and use a spatial element to all location based information and a range of solutions to meet E-Government directives.
