Dale and Valley Homes set out to improve services with GGP's GIS

dale&valleywebSeptember, 2008 - GGP Systems is helping Dale and Valley Homes get the most out of their investment in geographical information system (GIS), improving the provision of housing in County Durham. An Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) 100% owned by Wear Valley District Council, Dale and Valley Homes is dedicated to providing quality housing management services and improving customer's homes in line with government targets. Following completion of staff training Dale and Valley Homes will be implementing GGP's advanced GIS as an information management tool for the administration and control of housing stock and associated land and assets.

"GGP GIS will support a range of projects, such as asset management, regeneration, customer involvement and monitoring, improving the delivery of quality housing management services," commented Gee Sung, Service Standards Officer at Dale and Valley Homes. "The training and support we received from GGP gave us not only an introduction to the GIS software, it also gave us extensive background knowledge so we could understand the theories and concepts behind the advanced functionality."

Four members of staff from Dale and Valley Homes underwent a rigorous five-day training course led by one of GGP's experienced and qualified instructors. Accredited by the Association of Geographic Information the GGP course covered all aspects of GIS, from introduction of basic principles through to advanced analysis, database management through to data output and drawing. Hands on experience ensured attendees came away from the course with the competency and confidence to carry out a range of complex and precise tasks.

The Association of Geographic Information (AGI) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme is designed to provide structure and guidance for those who wish to manage their career development within the GI industry. Designed to specifically complement the Chartered Geographer Scheme offered in collaboration with the Royal Geographical Society with IBG, attendees at courses such as those offered by GGP Systems can accumulate points that can be used towards achieving or maintaining Chartered Geographer Status.

GGP Systems specialise in GIS and Gazetteer Management software specifically designed for the UK public sector. The South London based company provides easy to use solutions for the creation and management of corporate property databases, the ability to add and use a spatial element to all location based information and a range of solutions to meet t-Government directives.
